Regional Rail Authority to Vote on Union Depot Purchase
The Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority board will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in council chambers at the County Court House in St. Paul. On the agenda is an agreement to purchase the Union Depot concourse and adjacent trackage areas in St. Paul from the U.S. Postal Service. Ramsey County plans to renovate the depot for reuse as a multi-modal transit hub to serve the East Metro region, allowing passengers to transfer seamlessly between transit modes. The project has an anticipated completion date of 2012. Planned lines to be served by the depot include Central Corridor light rail, Rush Line, Red Rock, Robert Street and I-94 East corridors, Amtrak passenger rail, Greyhound and Jefferson Lines buses, Metro Transit buses and, eventually, Midwest High-Speed Rail to Chicago.
