Rush Line Moves Ahead with Commuter Bus Service

The Rush Line Corridor Task Force selected an enhanced commuter bus service scenario from among two options presented by project consultants at its meeting Aug. 23. The selected scenario, bus service from the North Branch area through Forest Lake to downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis, will now go to the member counties for approval and a final funding agreement. The enhanced commuter bus service is expected to cost a total of $1.1 million annually. Regional Rail Authority Approves 2008-09 Budget

The Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority board approved the 2008-09 authority budget at its meeting on Aug. 21. The Authority's total budget for 2008 will be $41.5 million, with no tax levy increase; for 2009, the budget will be $32.7 million, with no tax levy increase. Post Office Partnership to Meet

The next meeting of the Post Office Partnership is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 pm at the Northern Dakota County Service Center, Room 110C, One Mendota Road, West St. Paul, MN. Click here for an agenda. The Post Office Partnership is a group helping to plan the move of the U.S. Postal Service from Minnesota's Union Depot in St. Paul to an expanded mail sorting facility in Eagan. It is made up of representatives of Ramsey and Dakota counties, the cities of Eagan and St. Paul, state and federal offices, as well as the postal service.

Central Corridor Engineering Consultant Selected

DMJM Harris, a division of Aecom, has been selected to oversee preliminary engineering on the $930 million Central Corridor light rail project. The $91 million contract will provide for preliminary engineering, final design and design-support services during construction. The 11-mile Central Corridor will connect Minnesota’s Union Depot in downtown St. Paul with the Hiawatha Light Rail Transit line, which runs from downtown Minneapolis to the Mall of America, via the airport. The Central Corridor will also serve the state Capitol complex, St. Paul’s Midway, the University of Minnesota and residents and businesses along University Avenue. Preliminary engineering is expected to take about 18 months. Construction of the Central Corridor line is expected to begin in 2010, with operation beginning in 2014.
